Freeman Screen Team Offers Health Screenings

- Megan Davis

On Saturday, April 1, dedicated members of the Freeman Screen Team will be offering a variety of low-cost health screenings from 8 a.m. until noon during the annual McDonald County Business and Health Expo at McDonald County High School.

The free event, which runs 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 1, is open to the public. Sponsors are the Chamber of Commerce, Cabela’s, Freeman Health and Casey’s General Store in Anderson.

The theme of the event is “Recreation: Fun in the County.”

This year’s expo features a bow-shooting competition sponsored by Cabela’s from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the McDonald County High School Tournament Indoor Archery Range. It costs $5 to enter. The winner will receive a compound bow.

The Chamber of Commerce is giving away a kayak, $300 cash, an Easy Street electric cart grill and a surprise package, Benson said.

At noon the McDonald County Children’s Choir will perform, and at 1 p.m. the McDonald County Show Choir will perform.

Freeman will offer individual assessments for $10 including a blood pressure test, lipid panel, glucose test, weight and body fat composition, and an osteoporosis screening. Additional services will be available for a fee.

Freeman Screen Team is comprised of compassionate registered nurses and phlebotomists

who strive to serve their community.

Physicians work with local leaders to provide area residents with access to preventative screenings and detection software in an effort to create healthier communities. By bringing low-cost health screenings to various locations throughout the year, they hope to help those who might not seek medical services otherwise.

These screenings also allow team members to refer local residents to a physician in the event of concerning test results.

As winter gets in the rearview mirror, many people are lacking vitamin D, so now is a critical time to consider testing levels. Of course, you should always speak with your primary care physician before making any adjustments to your regimen.

Those wishing to receive a screening are asked to avoid food and drink (except water) for eight hours prior to testing. Remember to drink plenty of water and continue taking routine medications.

Freeman Health Systems has been providing healthcare services to the region for more than 90 years. The system includes four hospitals, two urgent care clinics and dozens of physician’s clinics — including the location in Anderson.

The most recent accomplishment added to Freeman’s timeline came in July 2015 when the health system was designated a Level II Stroke Center by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Freeman was the first and only hospital in the area to earn this distinction.
