Cecil Wayne ‘Bud’ Porter

C.W. “Bud” Porter, 89, of Webb City, Mo., departed this life on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Webb City Health and Rehab Facility after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 26, 1927, in Rural Nolan County, Texas, to Carter Francis Porter and Jessie Livona Mooneyham Porter.

He was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Patton on Sept. 6, 1945, in Stanton, Texas, and soon after he left to serve two years in the Army Air Corps. He and Mary had five children: Larry Wayne, Roger Mack, Carl David, Margaret Susan, and Warren Elmer.

The family moved from west Texas to northwest Arkansas in 1961 and relocated to Noel, Mo., in 1970. He served many roles in his lifetime. He was fire chief in both Crane and Brownfield, Texas. In the late 1950s and early 1960s he was a Mason in the Masonic Lodge. He worked as Maintenanc­e Manager for Purina and Hudson Foods in Noel. He was also the president and founder of Porter-Jackson Inc., an industrial mechanical contractin­g business located in Anderson, Mo. He loved spending time with family and friends and in his younger years, playing golf, dancing and traveling with Mary. He enjoyed people and was known to many by the nickname “Ole Bud.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Mack Truman Porter; his wife, Mary; his grandson, Diron; his daughter-in-law, Carolyn; and two sons, Warren and Larry.

He is survived by his son Roger of Bernice, Okla; son David and wife Jeanne of Webb City; daughter Susan and husband Lyn of Evanston, Wyo.; daughterin-law, Genell of Joplin, Mo.; sister-in-law Ruby Carr of Huntsville, Ark.; 13 grandchild­ren; 25 greatgrand­children; and two great-great grandchild­ren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Services will be held at Ozark Funeral Home in Noel. The family received visitors on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and funeral services will be held Thursday, April 13, 2017, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Noel Cemetery in Noel.
