Goodman neighbors continue to clean up and haul off debris and limbs created by the EF-2 tornado that tore through the town more than three months ago.

Goodman Mayor Greg Richmond told those who attended the City Council meeting Tuesday night that crews from Neosho recently hauled off many piles that were placed roadside, as well as the main collection point for limbs and debris.

“They did a really good job,” he said. Goodman Elementary School, which was heavily damaged during the tornado, is now completely leveled. Neosho School District officials have said that the school will be rebuilt in its former location.

City officials are researching the most efficient lighting needed for the ball fields. The ball season is basically over, Richmond said, and officials want to take their time and research the best lights.

In other news, council members heard from Tabitha and Francisco Villa, who are interested in purchasing a lot in Goodman and placing a manufactured home there. Officials asked them to apply for a variance. City Council members will review the request at the next council meeting.

Aldermen also:

Agreed that a particular lot — which has very tall, unmowed grass – needs to be dealt with. Richmond asked Police Chief Curt Drake to contact the owner and write a ticket, if needed.

Approved 90-day raises for Deputy Joe David and Clerk Dana Cornwell.

Two upcoming meetings, which will take place at City Hall, are open to the public. The next Ozark Orchard planning meeting will be held at 7 p.m. July 26. The next Goodman Comprehensive Planning meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 22.
