May 10, 1921 August 17, 2017 Mary Elizabeth Hays, 96, of Wyandotte, Okla., was called to Heaven on Thursday, Aug.

17, 2017. She was born in Bassett, Ark., on May 10,

1921, to the late Lee Roy and Lottie (Ralph) Brownlee.

She was a faithful member at the Council House Friends Church in Wyandotte where she served as a Sunday School teacher, clerk and youth leader. She really enjoyed loom weaving and dedicated her life to raising her children, grandchild­ren, great-grandchild­ren and great-great-grandchild­ren. She worked as a High School Economics teacher, and was a very hard worker on the farm, where she was affectiona­tely known as the calf raiser.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George T. Hays; a son, Carroll Maurice Hays; two brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by her children, Mary Ann Shupe and husband, Robert, of Wyandotte, Carolyn Sluiter and husband, Larry, of Freeport, Ill., George Hays of Seneca, Mo.; a brother, James Brownlee and wife, Louise, of Joiner, Ark.; a daughter-inlaw, Sandi Pestongi of Cary, N.C.; grandchild­ren, Robert Shupe, Lucas Shupe, Kevin Shupe, Lisa Carpenter, Mark Hays, Mary Cerbone, James Hays, Amy Slonac, Crystal Clark and Brandon Hays; 19 great-grandchild­ren; three great-great-grandchild­ren; and a host of other family and friends who will dearly miss her.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, at the Council House Friends Church in Wyandotte with Darwin King officiatin­g. Burial followed in the Council House Cemetery in Wyandotte. A celebratio­n of her life was held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, at the Council House Friends Church in Wyandotte. The family received friends at that time.
