What Is Jesus Worth To You?

- Cove Mission Of Hope

This morning was one of a very good message. Pastor is always ready for a spirit-filled word but this morning was a very serious and touching time for all who were in our midst. You know if the word of God does not shake you up a little you are in a different frame of mind than the Cove Family.

First we want to say Happy Anniversary to Sister Nan and Brother Don Parish. They celebrated last week. We are so lucky to have them as part of our church family. They are good helpers in all we endeavor to do, always eager and with sister Nan at the head of a good old church dinner on the grounds, it’s a real feast.

Brother Daniel Cartwright sang a beautiful song this morning. The words were assurance that heaven is just ahead. What a Day That Will Be. Our visitors this morning were so welcome, Sister Shirley Rich and her daughter Diane, Larry her husband and their children, we prayed for them during the loss of Bother Ray Rich who recently passed. He will be missed.

We are praying for all who are affected by the hurricane, so many people devastated by the losses. May God grant them the peace and healing they need. Sister Louene Gardner read a poem this morning titled “Are You Worn Out?” Many of us can identify with that but Praise to our Lord we will one day be in a home not made with hands and all will have new bodies that will forever be at rest.

Pastor gave us the scripture Mark 14:1-10. This is the account of Jesus going to the house of Simon the leper for a meal. Simon was very excited because Jesus healed him and he wanted so much for the visit and meal to be perfect. Mary and Martha who also had reason to Praise the Master were helping prepare the meal. Jesus had also preformed a healing in their house. Their brother Lazarus was raised from the dead. This was to be a great time of celebration.

However, they were shocked by the appearance of a woman who was a known sinner. She knelt at the feet of Jesus and washed his feet with her tears and anointed his head with a very precious ointment. Those who were watching were full of indignation and said “Why was this waste of the ointment made?” It could have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the pour. They murmured against her and Jesus was not at all pleased with the words he was hearing. He said, Let her alone, why trouble her? She hath wrought a good work on me.

Then he went on to explain that they would always have the poor with them so they could do good for them in due time. But they would not always have him with them for his death was at hand. She had helped to prepare him for his burial.

The next statement he made was very shocking to those who had been so judgmental. He said that wherever the gospel was preached throughout the whole world, this also will be spoken that she had done a good thing to show her love for the Savior. Then at the surprise of all Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve disciples, departed and went to the priests to betray Jesus.

The woman wept and Jesus looked down at her and said woman thy faith hath saved you. How often have we made the mistake of thinking that we are more righteous than someone who we felt was not worthy of God’s forgiveness? It’s a fearful thing to judge one, for Jesus loves the soul of all who come to him. We place ourselves in danger of rebuke from the Master when we step into the place of being a judge.

For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. We are saved by grace and only because Jesus died for our sins. We are to bridle our tongue and with love welcome all who are seeking the saving grace of our God. To those who owe much to a debtor and one who owes little. When forgiven of the debts who would be most thankful? In closing Pastor again asked “What is Jesus worth to you?” It is a question that should be considered by all. What answer would you give?

Come to the Cove Mission of Hope in Lanagan and worship with us, where we all find answers to many questions about God’s word.
