Volleyball Off To A Slow Start

Team Closes Week At Webb City Tonight

A young and inexperien­ced McDonald County High School volleyball team fell to 0-5 for the season after dropping all four of its matches at the Branson High School Volleyball Tournament held Aug. 26 at Branson High School.

The Lady Mustangs opened the tournament with a 25-12, 25-11 loss to Lee’s Summit in pool play.

Hollie Garvin had eight digs and two service points and Kayce Factor had three service points and six digs to lead McDonald County. Adyson Sanny and Emily Landers each chipped in with two service points while Karla Barreda had the only kill in the match for McDonald County.

Lamar claimed a 25-18, 25-21 win over the Lady Mustangs in McDonald County’s second match.

Kailana Pa had three kills and one block and Katelyn Ferdig had three service points, two digs and one kill to pace McDonald County. Garvin added 10 digs while Mattie Leach had eight assists and Raye Pearcy recorded six digs.

In McDonald County’s final game in pool play, Strafford claimed a 25-18, 25-14 decision.

Pa, Barreda, Leach, Garvin and Landers had one kill each. Pearcy added eight digs while Madison Hall had five assists and Factor had four service points.

Facing Seneca in bracket play, McDonald County dropped a 25-15, 25-11 decision. Nikki Salas had three kills and Pa, Hall and Landers had two each to lead the Lady Mustangs. Pearcy had 10 digs while Hall had 12 assists and Factor had four service points.

Diamond

The Lady Mustangs dropped a 25-21, 21-25, 25-10 decision to Diamond on Aug. 24 at MCHS to

open the season.

McDonald County scored four consecutiv­e points in the middle of the first game to take an 11-9 lead, but Diamond responded with six straight points for a 15-11 advantage and held off McDonald County for the win.

The Lady Wildcats appeared to on the way to a straight set win when they jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the second game, but McDonald County rallied for a 25-21 win by scoring the final eight points of the game.

But Diamond again got off to a fast start in the third and deciding game, jumping out to an 18-3 on the way to a 25-10 win.

Hall had four kills, six digs and nine assists while Factor had 12 service points and seven digs to lead McDonald County. Leach added three kills, three assists, three digs and six service points while Garvin had nine digs and Pearcy had six.

McDonald County claimed a 25-19, 24-26, 25-22 win in the junior varsity match while Diamond won the freshman match by a 25-22, 25-21 score.

McDonald County traveled to College Heights on Aug. 28 and to Cassville on Aug. 29 before closing out the week at Webb City tonight.
