Soc­cer Team Picks Up A Win

Eh Doh Say scored three goals and as­sisted on an­other to lead the McDon­ald County High School soc­cer team to a 4-1 win over Thomas Jef­fer­son Academy on Aug. 19 in the fifth-place game of the Cassville High School Soc­cer Tour­na­ment.

The ju­nior got the scor­ing started with an as­sist from sopho­more Jeobany Mar­cos to put up the Mus­tangs for good.

The same two teamed up for McDon­ald County’s sec­ond goal a short time later, be­fore Say as­sisted on Malachi Smith’s first goal as a Mus­tang.

Say earned his hat trick with an unas­sisted goal to make the fi­nal score 4-1.

McDon­ald County opened its sea­son and the tour­na­ment pool play with losses on Aug. 22 to New Covenant Academy and Fair Grove.

In the opener, New Covenant scored three first half goals and held on in the sec­ond half for a 3-0 win. McDon­ald County’s best scor­ing op­por­tu­nity came in the first half also when Say hit the cross­bar early in the match.

Fair Grove jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half and stretched its mar­gin to 6-0 in the sec­ond be­fore Say knocked in the Mus­tangs’ lone goal in the fi­nal minute.

McDon­ald County just missed a goal ear­lier in the match when Mu Dar’s free kick from just out­side the penalty box hit the cross­bar.

McDon­ald County was at River­ton on Aug. 29 and at Carl Junc­tion on Aug. 31 be­fore host­ing Monett on Sept. 7 in its home opener. Game time is 5 p.m. at Loyce Shell­nut Soc­cer Field, lo­cated next to the district ad­min­is­tra­tion of­fices in An­der­son.
