Soccer Team Picks Up A Win
Eh Doh Say scored three goals and assisted on another to lead the McDonald County High School soccer team to a 4-1 win over Thomas Jefferson Academy on Aug. 19 in the fifth-place game of the Cassville High School Soccer Tournament.
The junior got the scoring started with an assist from sophomore Jeobany Marcos to put up the Mustangs for good.
The same two teamed up for McDonald County’s second goal a short time later, before Say assisted on Malachi Smith’s first goal as a Mustang.
Say earned his hat trick with an unassisted goal to make the final score 4-1.
McDonald County opened its season and the tournament pool play with losses on Aug. 22 to New Covenant Academy and Fair Grove.
In the opener, New Covenant scored three first half goals and held on in the second half for a 3-0 win. McDonald County’s best scoring opportunity came in the first half also when Say hit the crossbar early in the match.
Fair Grove jumped out to a 2-0 lead at the half and stretched its margin to 6-0 in the second before Say knocked in the Mustangs’ lone goal in the final minute.
McDonald County just missed a goal earlier in the match when Mu Dar’s free kick from just outside the penalty box hit the crossbar.
McDonald County was at Riverton on Aug. 29 and at Carl Junction on Aug. 31 before hosting Monett on Sept. 7 in its home opener. Game time is 5 p.m. at Loyce Shellnut Soccer Field, located next to the district administration offices in Anderson.
