Re­gional Graz­ing School To Be Held In Early Oc­to­ber

STOCKTON — The Cedar County Soil and Wa­ter Con­ser­va­tion District, Univer­sity of Mis­souri Ex­ten­sion and Natural Re­sources Con­ser­va­tion Ser­vice, are work­ing to­gether to put on a re­gional graz­ing school in the Stockton area in early Oc­to­ber.

The graz­ing school will be­gin at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 3, Oct. 5, Oct. 10 and Oct. 12. The fi­nal field day por­tion of the school will be­gin at 8 a.m. Oct. 14.

Stockton Chris­tian Church Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter at 713 W. High­way 32 is the lo­ca­tion for the evening ses­sions. Ray­mond and Rus­sell Neill’s Farm about six miles west of Fair Play on High­way 32, or 9 miles east of Stockton on High­way 32, is the lo­ca­tion of the fi­nal field day por­tion of the school.

Pre­sen­ters for the school will in­clude lo­cal MU Ex­ten­sion re­gional agri­cul­ture spe­cial­ists and NRCS em­ploy­ees. Ed­u­ca­tion top­ics cov­ered will in­clude var­i­ous as­pects of a graz­ing sys­tem, in­clud­ing de­vel­op­ment, man­age­ment and eco­nom­ics of graz­ing as well as var­i­ous as­pects of live­stock man­age­ment within a graz­ing sys­tem. In­for­ma­tion learned from the school should help live­stock pro­duc­ers cut cost in their op­er­a­tion through bet­ter live­stock, graz­ing and pas­ture man­age­ment.

In ad­di­tion to the in­for­ma­tion gained from the school, peo­ple who at­tend all the ses­sions of the school will be able to par­tic­i­pate in soil and wa­ter con­ser­va­tion dis­tricts planned graz­ing sys­tem cost-share program. Fur­ther­more, by at­tend­ing the school it gives a bet­ter chance to par­tic­i­pate in the NRCS EQIP program, which pro­vides in­cen­tives for im­ple­mented soil and wa­ter con­ser­va­tion prac­tices.
