Junior High Runners, Football Team In Action

Cole Martin threw two touchdown passes to Levi Malone to help the McDonald County eighth-grade football avenge last year’s loss to Monett with a 24-6 win on Sept. 14 at Monett High School.

The two connected for a 65-yard touchdown in the first quarter to open the scoring. Martin also hit Malone for the two-point conversion to give McDonald County an 8-0 lead.

Monett scored late in the first quarter to cut the lead to 8-6, but Martin and Malone connected on a 20-yard touchdown pass just before halftime. Bo Leach ran the conversion to give McDonald County a 16-6 lead at intermissi­on.

The Mustangs added an insurance touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 20-yard run by Malick Taylor. Martin ran for the conversion to make the final score 24-6.

McDonald County is now 2-0 heading into its Sept. 21 game against Seneca at MCHS. Game time is approximat­ely 7 p.m.

Seventh Grade

Monett scored all 22 of its points in the first half to claim a 22-0 decision over McDonald County in the seventh-grade game.

The seventh grade falls to 1-1 for the season. The Mustangs play Seneca on Sept. 21 at MCHS. Game time is 5:30 p.m.

Cross Country

Levi Smith finished inninth place and Isaac Behm was 10th to lead the McDonald County seventh-grade boys team to third place at the McDonald County Junior High Cross Country Meet held Sept. 14 at Elk River Golf Course in Noel.

Smith finished the 2500 meter course in a time of 9:38.6 while Behm finished in 9:38.8. Other McDonald County results were Hunter Leach, 12th, 9:44.8; Remington Ziemianin, 18th, 9:56.9; Cross Spencer, 36th, 10:55.70; Andrew Moritz, 50th, 11:47.9; Cody Dumond, 60th, 12:02.7; and, Eli Jordan, 66th, 12:41.0.

Nick Quinn of Joplin North won the race in a time of 9:00.60.

Washington Junior High School of Bentonvill­e won the team title.

Eighth Grade Boys

Dawson Wolff finished in 14th place in 9:14.4 to lead McDonald County’s eighth-grade boys. Rounding out the results for McDonald County were Devon Swanson, 42nd, 10:09.1; Garrett Anderson, 48th, 10:25.0; Francisco Villatoro, 63rd, 11:04.10; Jose Cassarubia­s, 65th, 11:07.20; Matthew McCall, 74th, 11:49.10; and Eli Jackson, 90th, 14:07.50.

Thomas Hodges of Washington won the race in a time of 7:59.80. East Newton won the team title while McDonald County finished in ninth.

Seventh-Grade Girls

The McDonald County seventh-grade girls were led by Melissa McCrory, who finished in 17th place in a time of 11:04.70. Haley Walczak was second for the Lady Mustangs in 39th place in 12:41.0 followed by Britany Akins, 55th, 14:34.80; and Amanda Pacheco, 68th, 17:30.60.

Hayden Weber led Washington to the team title by winning race in a time of 9:29.10.

McDonald County did not field a full team.

Eighth-Grade Girls

Kayln Stetina had McDonald County’s best finish in any division by taking seventh place in the eighth-grade girls’ race in a time of 10:12.10.

Haley Mick was second for the Lady Mustangs in 23rd place in 11:26.70 followed by Alexis Wahlberg, 28th, 11:45.10; Ebony Munoz, 47th, 12:50.70; and Hailey Staib, 52nd, 13:06.60.

Ally Montez of Carl Junction won the race in a time of 9:32.60.

East Newton won the team title while McDonald County finished in fifth place.
