Cross County Runners Compete In Lawrence, Kan.
David Lazalde led the McDonald County High School boys’ cross country team at the Rim Rock Farm Cross Country Championships with a 27th place out of 350 runners in the Blue Division.
Lazalde finished the 5000meter University of Kansas course at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kan., in a time of 18:05.9.
Garrett Spears was second for the Mustangs, finishing in 80th place in 19:01.9. Third for the McDonald County was Bryce Berryhill (115th, 19:38.0) followed by Jackson Behm, 132nd, 19:49.0; Tyler Moritz, 196th, 20:46.0; and Elijah Habert, 250th, 21.26.8.
Lakelin Conrad of Wichita-Collegiate was the individual champion with a time of 16:19.6.
McDonald County finished in 18th place in the team standings of 47 teams. Bentonville West (Arkansas) won the team championship.
Girls
Addy Mick led the McDonald County girls’ team with a 105th place finish in a time of 24:10.9. Second for the Lady Mustangs was Natalie Staib (131st, 25:10.7) followed by Brooklyn Winters, 162nd, 26:09.3 and Isarlin Aden, 226th, 30:12.4.
The girls’ winner was Halle Johnson of Bennington High School in a time of 19:34.4.
Great Bend High School won the team championship. McDonald County did not field the required five runners to be in the team competition.
McDonald County’s next race is on Sept. 30 at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
