Verla Faye Horton, 77, of Rocky Comfort, Mo., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Mo. She was born March 6,
1940, in Barry County, Mo., to Melvin and
Epsie (Fletcher) Shrum.
She received her education at Southwest School in Washburn, Mo. On Nov. 15, 1957, she was united in marriage to Charles Horton. For 30 years, she was employed at Sunbeam in Neosho, Mo., from which she retired. She was a member of Living Word Mission Church. She loved flowers, cooking, baking, decorating cakes, fishing, and being with family.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Shrum and Roy Shrum; and one sister, Erma Shockley.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; one daughter, Sharon Carlin and her husband Jerald; two sons, Leon Horton and his wife Madeline, and Rick Horton and his wife Roxann, all of Rocky Comfort; seven grandchildren, Shannon Horton and his wife Jamie, Joshua Carlin, Renee Vogt and her husband Dylan, Chad Horton and his wife Tosha, Matt Horton and his wife Sabrie, Allisha Woods and her husband Matt, and Casey Horton and her fiancé Rocky Bronson; 10 great-grandchildren, Logan Carlin, Trenton Carlin, Kylan Horton, Makenzie Horton, Peyton Vogt, Anna Woods, McKenna Horton, Brooklyn Vogt, Cody Woods, and Kash Horton; and one step-great-granddaughter, Alexandrea.
The family received friends on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville, Mo.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Billy Joe Gentry will conduct the services. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Stella, Mo.
