‘Christmas City Classics’ Available

Two strapping 6-foot-tall teenage boys are a testament that the new Noel Woman’s Club cookbook is a winner. Club members have worked on the year-long project, launching the new cookbook in time for the holidays.
As a way of testing out one of the recipes, club co-president Melissa Lance decided to make president Dot Harner’s recipe for spaghetti pie. Once her teenage boys, who are 6-feet, 2-inches, and 6-feet, 4-inches, got ahold of the new dish, their empty dinner plates told the whole story.
“It was gone,” Lance said, adding that her husband didn’t even get a chance to test it.
“Christmas City Classics” is chock-full of all types of recipes, from main dishes to candy and everything in between.
Lance believes the biggest draw is that the recipes are time-tested and true. Older recipes that have been utilized for years are the best ones, she said. “Everybody loves recipes,” she said.
And the cookbook features a variety of recipes from tried and true cooks.
“Granny’s recipes are the best,” said Lance’s husband, Rick. “And the more grannies you have, the better.”
Melissa Lance said the club first created and sold a cookbook in 2009. A few years later, the club created a Gooseberry Patch cookbook with much success.
Club members love to promote great recipes while helping the community.
Proceeds from the cookbook help fund two scholarships, the Relay for Life, McDonald County Senior Center, local libraries and the Noel ball program, she said.
Through the end of October, club members are selling the cookbook at a half-price special for only $5, in honor of the club’s 93rd anniversary.
In November, the cookbook will be offered for $10.
