A Memorial Service for Helen Armstrong-Pannell will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the Syracuse Wesleyan Church in Syracuse, Kansas. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Helen (Mitchell) Armstrong-Pannell was born on January 8, 1923, in Anderson, Missouri, to William and Louella (Slagle) Mitchell. She passed away on January 7, 2018, at Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas, at the age of 94.

Helen grew up during The Great Depression, the youngest of five children. She became frugal in her ways of living because of the struggles she saw during that time. She attended and graduated from Anderson Schools. Helen took great pride in being a mother and a housewife. She was not only able to put food on the table for her family but also managed to feed many of the farmhands. Helen was married to Loyal Armstrong in 1941 and, to this union, 4 children were born. In 1960, Helen began working in a restaurant until purchasing one in 1969. She then retired in 1975. Helen then married Chett Pannell in 1975.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Jo Bizzell and Donna Sue Rohrer; son, John (Joyce) Armstrong; five grandchild­ren; five great-grandchild­ren; three great-great-grandchild­ren; numerous nephews and nieces; as well as many other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luella and William Mitchell; son, Lewis Armstrong; husband, Chett Pannell; sisters, Bea Dunkel and Dixie Shannon; and brothers, Wayne Mitchell and George Mitchell.
