John Walter Davis, 96, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at the McDonald County Living Center in Anderson, Mo.

He was born Sept. 19, 1921, and lived in Noel, Mo., all his life. On Sept. 19, 1944, he married Dorothy Elizabeth Rousselot. At 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during WWII as a chief petty officer. He served aboard the USS Altair, USS North Carolina and the USS Missouri. He received the American Campaign Medal, the Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense/Asiatic Pacific Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. Upon return from the war, he built many homes in Noel and farmed most of his life. He retired as a Noel rural route mail carrier to enjoy many years with family, farming, fishing and friends. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Noel.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy; his parents, Maggie N. (Terry) Davis and Charles E. Davis; and four brothers, Baby Davis, Don Davis, Jim Davis and Bob Davis.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Davis (Linda), Dick Davis (Tandi Jo); a daughter, Ann Otterstedt (Charles); six grandchild­ren; and a sister, Terry Maloney of California.

The family is honoring his wishes to not have a public service but, however, requests remembranc­e in thoughts and prayers. Arrangemen­ts are by Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson.
