Council Gives Go-Ahead To Increase Water, Sewer Rates

New water and sewer rates are now in effect for Goodman residents.

The Goodman City Council on Tuesday night approved on second reading three ordinances that increase water and sewer rates for residents and commercial users.

Aldermen voted to approve Ordinance No. 2018-494, which increases the water rates by 29 cents per 1,000 gallons after the first 1,000 gallons, and Ordinance No. 2018-495, which increases the commercial water rates by 29 cents after the first 1,000 gallons to the next 50,000 gallons, the 51,001 to 100,000 gallons by 29 cents and all gallons over 100,001 gallons of water by 29 cents.

The city council also approved Ordinance No. 2018-496, which increases the sewer rates by 29 cents for the second 1,000 gallons and by 29 cents for each 1,000 gallons after the first 2,000 gallons.

The increases are now in effect and will be reflected on the Feb. 1 bill.

Aldermen also approved pursuing the purchase of a 2009 GMC Sierra work truck for $9,200. The council previously had approved a $10,000 allotment for a truck in 2018.

Continued training was approved for city clerks Karla McNorton and Dana Cornwell, as well as city supervisor David Brodie.

Alderman also gave the go-ahead for two radar units for the police pickup truck and Dodge Charger. One of the two radar units

previously had been budgeted for 2018. Aldermen approved the overall expenditure of $4,250 for the two radar units, including shipping and installation.

In other business, the council officially approved the Goodman Comprehensive Plan from the Harry S. Truman Coordinating Council. HSTCC executive director Jill Cornett lead the discussion about the plan during a public hearing held before the regular council meeting. The plan was adopted at the regular meeting. City officials will still need to line out a planning and zoning committee.
