Junior Mustangs Defeat Seneca On Jan. 19

Seventh-Grade Boys

The McDonald County seventh-grade boys’ basketball team improved to 5-2 for the season with a 38-22 win on Jan. 19 at MCHS.

The teams were tied 8-8 at the end of the first quarter before the Mustangs took a 16-13 lead at halftime. McDonald County stretched its margin to 26-17 after three quarters.

Weston Gordon scored 16 points to lead McDonald County. Jack Parnell added six points, followed by Sterling Woods and Dalton McClain with five each, Braxton Spears four and Isaac Behm two.

McDonald County hosted Lamar on Jan. 22. The Mustangs travel to Monett on Jan. 25 before hosting Joplin on Jan. 27 at MCHS in a makeup of a game postponed due to weather. Game time is 4 p.m.

McDonald County made it a sweep with a 38-15 win in the B game.

Tucker Dill led the Mustangs with 10 points, followed by Ivan Serna with eight, Eli Jordan six, Landon Gooder and Spears four each and Jacob Gordon, Jaxson Harrell and Andrew Moritz with two each.

Eighth-Grade Boys

Cole Martin scored 12 points and Bo Leach 11 to lead the McDonald County eighth-grade boys’ basketball team to a 43-24 win over Seneca on Jan. 19 at MCHS.

McDonald County led just 12-10 at the end of the first quarter before taking a 21-16 lead at halftime. The Mustangs stretched the lead to 32-24 lead into the fourth quarter.

Matthew Mora and Pierce Harmon added five points each for the Mustangs, followed by Garrett Gricks and Junior Eliam with four each and Kaden Keeling two.

McDonald County improves to 5-1 on the season heading into its Jan. 22 game against Lamar. McDonald County travels to Monett on Jan. 25 before hosting Joplin on Jan. 27 at MCHS in a makeup of a game postponed due to weather. Gametime is 4 p.m.

The McDonald County eighth-grade B team added a 52-13 win over the Indians.

Keeling led the Mustangs with 11 points, followed by Colton Ruddick and Dylan Igosomar with nine each, Eli McClain eight, Devin Swanson six, S.J. Joseph five and Levi Malone and Levi Helm two each.
