Chamber Of Commerce To Host Annual Health, Business Expo

McDonald County Chamber of Commerce officials are expecting more than 500 people to attend the 12th Annual Health Fair and Business Expo.

More than 70 vendors will showcase their services at the event, set for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, at the McDonald County High School.

The event also will feature a health fair with preventative screenings, entertainment by the McDonald County Choir and the McDonald County High School indoor archery tournament, which begins at 9 a.m. Admission to the expo is free. Chamber official Bob Williams said those who attend will have the opportunity to visit with a variety of vendors and learn more about financial investments, health care, campgrounds and tourism, long-term care facilities, farm and lawn equipment, gift shops, home repair, insurance, attorneys’ services and schools.

Profit and non-profit vendors will be on hand.

Door prizes will be awarded, and vendors will have several giveaways.

Last year’s event featured

71 vendors and chamber officials are working hard to exceed that number this year, Williams said.

In addition, the Freeman Screen Team will offer a variety of low-cost health screenings from 8 a.m. to noon. Freeman will offer individual assessments for $10, which will include a blood pressure test, lipid panel, glucose test, weight and body fat composition and an osteoporosis screening. Additional services will be provided for a fee.

The Freeman Screen Team, comprised of registered nurses and phlebotomists, works to provide area residents with access to preventative screenings and detection software in an effort to create healthier communities.

By bringing low-cost health screenings to various locations throughout the year, the staff hopes to help those who might not otherwise seek medical services. The screenings also allow team members to refer local residents to a physician in the event of concerning test results.
