Pineville Officials Take On Big Projects This Year

Pineville officials have big plans this year to launch projects that will benefit the community. With spring around the corner, officials are planning to build restrooms at the bike park.

The bike park, open to people of all ages, is an amenity that was dedicated last July. Officials have said they hope to continue to add other features to the park, and recently placed a pavilion there for shade and a place to rest. New restrooms also are a needed feature.

As the weather warms, crews will begin work on that project, said Pineville mayor Gregg Sweeten.

Sweeten said crews also are working on the trail behind the city’s ballpark and putting in a new sidewalk on the outfield wall. The sidewalk will connect the trail to the existing sidewalk that leads to Pineville Elementary School.

In other projects, crew members have finished the new water tower pad, Sweeten said. The company building the water tower was to have crews on hand on March 5 to begin work.

Other plans this year include beginning design work on a new recreation center and clearing the land. The two properties are located next to the redeveloped Myers Park, city hall and the community center.

When the announcement was made last summer, Sweeten said city officials had worked on securing the site for more than one year and had purchased the land for $120,000. That figure does not include the cost of the center’s construction.

A planning group is considering various features, including a splash pad, a pool, a basketball court and a walking track.
