Gary Wayne Sorensen

July 3, 1935 March 22, 2018 Gary Wayne Sorensen, 82, of Pineville, Mo., died Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Highlands Health Care Center in Bella Vista, Ark.

He was born July 3, 1935, in Las Vegas, Nev., to William Justin and Hazel Pearl (Harrison) Sorensen. He was a 1953 graduate of Las Vegas High School. On Dec. 7, 1962, he married Grace Clausen. He was a firefighter for 36 years, retiring in 1992, as Battalion Chief with the City of Las Vegas Fire Department. After retirement, they moved to Pineville where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading. He was a member of the Anderson Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Morgan and Clare Sorensen; and one sister, Margaret Anna Brode.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Grace Sorensen of the home; five children, Sharon Cicchetti (Steven) of Chula Vista, Calif., Connie Lynne Wilkerson (Doug) of Bella Vista, Gary Wayne Sorensen II (Victoria) of Tampa, Fla., Hazel Florence Tibbitts (David) of Bountiful, Utah, and William Alexander Sorensen (Glenda White) of Pineville; 17 grandchildren; and a brother, William Delbert Sorensen of Boulder City, Nev.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Anderson Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Taylor Duersch officiating. Burial followed in the Peace Valley Cemetery in Anderson, Mo.
