From a pancake breakfast to a business expo and a banquet, McDonald County neighbors have triple the opportunity for fun on Saturday, April 7.

Apron-wearing Pineville firefighters will flip pancakes at an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at the Pineville Community Center.

Money raised will help pay for a new brush firefighting truck.

Firefighters also plan to purchase several new sets of bunker gear. Each set costs approximately $1,500, which only includes the coat and pants. Gloves, hoods, boots and helmets have to be purchased at an additional cost.

Pineville fire chief Ryan Drake said the department doesn’t set a particular monetary goal but simply tries to draw a crowd of neighbors to the event.

“We just try to get the most people out to attend that we can,” Drake said.

Firefighters are ready to take on the challenges of the kitchen.

“The firefighters will be doing all the cooking that morning for the breakfast,” he said.

In addition to raising money, firefighters look forward to the event for sharing fellowship.

“The best part of the breakfast is getting to spend time with the community members we serve, to thank them for their support, and to be with our fire department family having a good time,” Drake said.

Across the county in Anderson, McDonald County neighbors can get a look at more than 70 vendors showcasing their businesses.

The 12th Annual Health Fair and Business Expo, hosted by the McDonald County Chamber of Commerce, also will highlight preventative screenings and entertainment by the McDonald County Choir.

The McDonald County High School indoor archery tournament will take place at 9 a.m.

Those who attend will have the chance to learn more about various businesses, as well as non-profit vendors. Door prizes and giveaways will be awarded.

In addition, the Freeman Screen Team will offer a variety of low-cost health screenings from 8 a.m. to noon. Freeman will offer individual assessments for $10, which will include a blood pressure test, lipid panel, glucose test, weight and body fat composition and an osteoporosis screening. Additional services will be provided for a fee.

Admission to the expo is free.

That evening, the McDonald County Historical Society will host its Annual Spring Banquet, beginning at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 7.

The event will take place at the River Ranch Resort in Noel.

Funds raised will go toward the preservation of the Old McDonald County Courthouse.

Those who attend will enjoy dinner, entertainment and pie and live auctions. The live auction will feature artifacts and other valuable items, said McDonald County Historical Society president Karen Dobbs.

Actors and actresses from the Snake County Stories will present scenes from the play.

Dobbs said the organization chose to perform excerpts from the production because well-known neighbors so aptly depict McDonald County’s unique history.

“The simple radio play brings to life true stories from citizens of our county,” Dobbs said. “The performance will make you laugh and think about our rich and colorful history. It’s a perfect celebration of who we, of McDonald County, are.”

Society members also will sell tickets for a print, “Scouting Martin Station,” by Doug Hall. The print is on display at various local banks and will be showcased at the banquet, Dobbs said.

Tickets for the banquet, which are $30 each, are available at Cornerstone Bank in Southwest City and Pineville, the Jane Store, the First Community Bank in Goodman, the Arvest Bank in Noel and Anderson, and Rags to Riches in Anderson.
