Joyce Varner, 82, of Sulphur Springs, Ark., died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at the Ozark Community Hospital in Gravette, Ark., after a recent decline in health.

She was born April 13, 1935, in Okeechobee,

Fla., to Allen and Pearl (Padgett) Hancock.

She resided in Okeechobee for several years before moving to Sulphur Springs in 1993. On Oct. 17, 1978, she married John Varner. She was a homemaker throughout her life and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed feeding the birds and helping others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Luke Platt, Johnnie Fender and Vance Yates; two brothers, Sonny and Archie Hancock; and three sisters, Wanda Hullet, Arlene Carter and Winny Leitner.

Survivors include her husband, John, of the home; two children, Clayton Yates of Sulphur Springs and Joyce Buckner of Melbourne, Fla.; seven grandchild­ren; a brother, Johnnie Hancock of Okeechobee; and a sister, Gail Castro of Houston, Texas.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2018, in the Noel Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor David Barber officiatin­g. Burial followed in the Butler Creek Cemetery in Sulphur Springs.
