Joyce Varner, 82, of Sul­phur Springs, Ark., died Thurs­day, March 29, 2018, at the Ozark Com­mu­nity Hos­pi­tal in Gravette, Ark., after a re­cent de­cline in health.

She was born April 13, 1935, in Okee­chobee,

Fla., to Allen and Pearl (Pad­gett) Han­cock.

She resided in Okee­chobee for sev­eral years be­fore mov­ing to Sul­phur Springs in 1993. On Oct. 17, 1978, she mar­ried John Varner. She was a home­maker through­out her life and was of the Bap­tist faith. She en­joyed feed­ing the birds and help­ing oth­ers.

She was pre­ceded in death by her par­ents; three sons, Luke Platt, John­nie Fender and Vance Yates; two broth­ers, Sonny and Archie Han­cock; and three sis­ters, Wanda Hul­let, Ar­lene Carter and Winny Leit­ner.

Sur­vivors in­clude her hus­band, John, of the home; two chil­dren, Clay­ton Yates of Sul­phur Springs and Joyce Buck­ner of Melbourne, Fla.; seven grand­chil­dren; a brother, John­nie Han­cock of Okee­chobee; and a sis­ter, Gail Cas­tro of Hous­ton, Texas.

Fu­neral ser­vices were held at 1 p.m. Mon­day, April 2, 2018, in the Noel Chapel of the Ozark Fu­neral Homes with Pas­tor David Bar­ber of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial fol­lowed in the But­ler Creek Ceme­tery in Sul­phur Springs.
