Junior High Mustangs Host Stampede

The 7th/8th-Grade Mustang Stampede was held on March 29 at McDonald County High School.

Carthage won three of the four team championsh­ips (seventh-grade girls, seventhgra­de boys and eighth-grade boys), while Carl Junction won the eighth-grade girls.

McDonald County’s best finish was a fourth-place in the seventh-grade boys. The Mustangs took fifth in the seventh-grade girls, sixth in the eighth-grade girls and seventh in the eighth-grade boys.

In addition to Carthage, Carl Junction and McDonald County, teams participat­ing were Mount Vernon, East Newton, Seneca and Cassville.

McDonald County’s lone winner in the meet was Melysia McCrory, who won the seventh-grade girls 800-meter run in a time of 2:40.4. She also took fifth in the high jump (4-0) and ran a leg on the 4x400 relay.

Rounding out the seventhgra­de girls’ top eight results were: Lexi Cohu, eighth, 400, 1:14.3; Teryn Torrez, sixth, 1600, 7:06.6; Leia Bryan, seventh, 100 hurdles, 22.7; Piper Silvester, Hailey Montgomery, Haynay Way and Kylie Kimbrough, third, 4x100 relay, 1:08.3; Kyla Moore, Helen Martinez, Maddie Barkfelt and Bryan, fourth, 4x200 relay, 2:26.8; Haley Walczak, Mya Burton, Brittany Akins and McCrory, third, 4x400 relay, 5:51.0; Walczak, sixth, high jump, 4-0; Burton, sixth, long jump, 11-5; Way, third, triple jump, 26-1; Martinez, eighth, shot put, 20-9; and Montgomery, third, discus, 60-0.

Eighth-grade girls’ results are as follows: Sosha Howard, fifth, 200, 31.0; Lundyn Trudeau, Hailey Morris, Gissele Delatorre and Howard, fifth, 4x100, 1:03.5; Alexis Wahlberg, Jasmine McDonald, Madison Brown and Jasmine Duncan, fifth, 4x400, 5:49.4; Trudeau, sixth, pole vault, 5-0; Howard, fifth, triple jump, 27-4.5; Duncan, sixth, triple jump, 25-11.5; and, Leonela Cardenas, eighth, shot put, 23-9.5.

McDonald County was at the Carthage Relays on April 3 before traveling to East Newton on April 10.
