Newton, McDonald County Master Gardeners To Host Plant Sale
NEOSHO — “Helping others learn to grow” is the mission of Missouri’s Master Gardeners. Hill-nHollow Master Gardeners of McDonald and Newton counties continue the mission with their annual plant sale. Master gardeners will be on site to offer suggestions, answer questions and provide planting tips. The plant sale allows area master gardeners to share plants from their own gardens with the community, while raising money to further their mission.
The sale will include shrubs, young trees, bulbs, perennials, vegetables, herbs, annuals, grasses, ground covers, houseplants and other garden-related items. “There is always an excellent selection of plants to choose from,” said Jennifer Lutes, University of Missouri-McDonald County program director, “many of which are often hard to find.” Shoppers should plan to arrive early for the best selection.
These trained volunteers love to share knowledge and spread passion for gardening all across the community. Last year, members of Hilln-Hollow Master Gardeners contributed more than 1,400 hours volunteering. The group also broke ground on a new demonstration garden at the extension office in Neosho last year. The demonstration vegetable garden produced more than 750 pounds of vegetables that was donated to the Help Center in Neosho. You can also see the master gardeners’
work in public gardens, county courthouses, libraries, fairgrounds and many other public buildings throughout McDonald and Newton counties.
The annual plant sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Newton County Extension
Office, located across from the Neosho Airport at 18728 Highway 59, Neosho.
