Gideons Share Their Work Of Bible Distribution

- Mill Creek Baptist Church

The Gideons distributed 87 million Bibles last year around the world to share the life-changing word of God. “As followers of Christ, we take for granted that people have Bibles. More homes than we know don’t have a Bible in them.” The Gideons have distributed Bibles in 201 countries in 107 languages since 1889. “Hunger for God’s word around the world is overwhelming. In Africa, the Gideon New Testament Bible is the only book some of them will ever have.” All donations go to purchasing Bibles that are placed in hotels, schools and distributed around the world and to the military. There is also a new Gideon Bible app that has the Bible available in 1,225 different languages. They also shared a video testimony about the power of God and His word.

As we gathered to worship Sunday morning at Mill Creek Baptist Church, we were greeted by Wayne Johnson, who opened our service with prayer. Special prayers of healing were requested for Jimmy and Jeanette Easter, J.R. Denny, Karen Sherman and Nate Miller.

Linda Abercrombie shared a devotional, “Sensing God’s Peace,” with scripture from Psalm 24:1, “The earth is the Lord’s and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.” Starry skies, snowy woods and lakes bring us peace and the beauty of nature. God living within us gives us peace and our heart’s desire.

Hymns of praise included “I Am Resolved” and “There’s Something About That Name” led by Becky Johnson and Karen Gardner. Jerry Abercrombie brought us special music about singing praise and carrying on until God calls us home with “Until Then.”

Tyrel Lett asked God’s blessing upon the offertory and he and Rick Lett served as offering attendants.

We were blessed to have Allen Lewis and Robert with us from the Gideons International to share information about their work of sharing God’s word in the world. “If they don’t have Bibles, how will they know who loves them?” The Gideons distributed 87 million Bibles last year around the world to share the life-changing word of God. “As followers of Christ, we take for granted that people have Bibles. “Oh, How He Loves You and Me” was our hymn of invitation, and Wayne gave the benediction.

We will be participating in the SWC Old Timers Day Parade with our entry, “Fishers of Men.” Our graduation luncheon for high school graduates Grant Abercrombie and Brittany Ricker, along with college graduate Tyrel Lett, will be held on Sunday, May 6.

Sunday school begins at 10 a.m. and the worship service at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome at Mill Creek Baptist Church, which is located 3 1/2 miles east of Noel, just off Highway 90.
