Dobbs Receives D.I.A.N.A. Award
Lambda Chi Chapter of ESA met at noon May 2 in the home of Judy Duncan in Bella Vista, Ark. After lunch, an educational program was given by guest Karen Dobbs concerning CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) organization in which she is active. Following her presentation, Karen was presented the D.I.A.N.A. Award by Lambda Chi chapter.
Karen’s CASA work makes her worthy of this International Academy of Noble Achievement Award, but she also is a major contributor to McDonald County life as president of the McDonald County Historical Society. Through that organization, Karen has dedicated countless hours organizing historical items for the museum, guiding school children through exhibits and fundraising to protect the historical legacy of the county.
The New-Mac CASA has served more than 1,500 foster children as an advocate for the child in judicial matters and as an interested party in the child’s life during the time spent in foster care.
Following the program, president Alice Snodgrass called the meeting to order. Chapter members are most involved in the interview process for the Outstanding Youth Award program which will recognized three students at each of the six McDonald County junior high promotion programs on May 22.
The chapter heard a report on the Missouri State Convention held in Blue Springs, Ark., in April from Alice Snodgrass, Shirley Alps, Judy Duncan and Judy Rickett, the four members that represented the chapter. Looking ahead, Lynn Tatum was appointed the educational chair and will develop programs with a tie-in social event over the coming year. A possible catering event was approved, an activity that is a fundraiser for the chapter’s scholarships.
