A month after resigning as baseball coach, Nick Martin has decided to sever all ties with the McDonald County School District.

Martin, a 1997 graduate of MCHS, resigned his position of athletic director after serving in the post for the past three years.

“I really enjoyed working with the coaches and the kids,” Martin said. “The high school administration was great to work with and I appreciate their support.”

Martin said, in the three years he led the district’s athletic programs, he believes some positive strides have been made.

“I think we did some good things in the three years we were there,” Martin said. “I think the programs are heading in the right direction. We have a great nucleus of young coaches who will put their handprint on Mustang athletics in a very positive way. I think I have hired everyone but the softball and wrestling coaches.”

After graduating from MCHS, Martin attended Crowder College, where he earned the Midwest Region Big Stick Award after hitting .511 during his freshman season.

Following his two years at Crowder, Martin continued his baseball career at Arkansas State University, a Division I university in Jonesboro, Ark.

Martin said it was a tough decision to resign, but he felt it was the right decision.

“I am leaving because I didn’t think I could fulfill my duties as athletic director in the manner they should be fulfilled,” Martin said. “I think it’s best I leave at this time.”

Martin’s replacement is expected to be named at the June board meeting scheduled for today.

“We have a great nucleus of young coaches who will put their handprint on Mustang athletics in a very positive way.”
