Noel Woman’s Club Meeting

-

The September meeting of the Noel Woman’s Club was held Tuesday, Sept. 11. Louine Gardner read a beautiful poem she had written about 911 and our beloved country. After the pledge of allegiance and Lord’s Prayer were recited, roll call was taken with 14 members present. A new member, Deby Hopping, was welcomed to the club. Minutes were read and approved by Secretary Debbie Powell. The Treasurer’s report was given by Bonnie Leonard.

A date was set for the Fall Bake Sale to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, in front of Harps. Please come out and buy some baked goods and support the community. All proceeds from the sale will benefit causes in the Noel community.

There will also be an opportunity to purchase the Club’s cookbook, “Christmas City Classics,” beginning Oct. 1 and running through Oct. 31, for half price or $5 each. There will be a limited number of these cookbooks, so be sure to notify a member early to ensure a copy, if you have not already done so.

It was voted to donate a basket for the Noel School Fundraiser and members are to bring kitchen items for the basket to the next meeting.

A donation was also made to the Noel Public Library.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Louine Gardner who celebrates a September birthday.

The meeting in October will be our Tacky Party, which is a version of Halloween. Everyone dresses up pretty tacky to see who can outdo the others.

The program this month was presented by Barb Ittner about the Silver Haired Legislature. Barb happens to be the Missouri State president for this organization. Delegates are elected from each of Missouri’s 10 Area Agencies on Aging, for a total of 150 legislators. These seniors go to Jefferson City annually for a model legislative session at the State Capitol. They debate and vote on five top priority proposals to present to Congress. They return to their districts and encourage support of these issues involving seniors. They also testify before the Missouri Senate and House regarding these issues. It was a very informative and interesting presentation.

Thank you to the hostess this month, Anita Bailey, who provided wonderful refreshments.

Everyone is invited to join us for a meeting. For more information, please call President Melissa Lance at 417-475-3599.
