Mustangs Place In Cross Country Races

The McDonald County High School girls’ cross country team earned second place at the Clinton High School Cross Country Invitation­al held Sept. 15 at Clinton High School.

The Mustang boys’ team tied with Clinton for second place with 59 points but ended up third based on a tiebreaker.

Kalyn Stetina led the Lady Mustangs with a fifth-place finish in a time of 23:28. Addy Mick also earned a medal, taking seventh place in 23:47. Just missing a medal were Natalie Staib who finished in 16th place in 25:39 and Brooklyn Winters in 17th in 25:43. Rounding out the Lady Mustang results was Azlen Smith who finished in 26th place in 27:44.

Kaylee Harp of Harrisonvi­lle won the race in a time of 21:18.

Kansas City Lutheran won the team title with 22 points to outdistanc­e McDonald County in second with 47 points.

Boys

David Lazalde edged teammate Garrett Spears to take second place in the boys’ race. Lazalde finished in 18:30, while Spears took third in 18:31.

Rounding out the McDonald County results were Jackson Behm, 14th, 19:26; Bryce Berryhill, 15th, 19:40; Tyler Moritz, 32nd, 21:35; Isaiah Garvin, 43rd, 22:20; and Justin Smith, 51st, 23:17.

Kayden Crigger of Kansas City Ruskin won the boys’ division with a time of 17:51.

McDonald County’s next race is set for Sept. 22 at East Newton High School. Races begin at 10 a.m.

Junior Varsity

Eli Jackson led the McDonald County junior varsity boys’ results, taking sixth with a time of 24:06. Garrett Anderson was ninth in 25:40, while Ryan King was 12th in 25:42.
