LaSandra McKeever had the perfect place to showcase her award-winning jams this summer.

The jam and jelly maker offered a unique selection, including Brumley pear butter and organic hot salsa, at the Powell Farmers Market.

Other jellies — with flavors such as Ozark Mountain White Peach Jam, Pumpkin Pie Jam and Raspberry Jalapeno Jam — took first, second and third place in the recent Jane Days jam and jelly contest.

This Friday, shoppers will have a chance to grab some of those one-of-a-kind crafted jams at the last Farmers Market of the season at Powell.

The Farmers Market begins at 3 p.m. and concludes at 7. Vendors set up on the Brumley Music Company grounds on Highway E in Powell.

The Powell Historical Preservation Society launched the market for the first time this year. Held on the first and third Fridays, the market offers vendors and the community a place to meet, visit and exchange goods.

“I think we had a great response to the inaugural season of a market in Powell,” said Tiffany Norwood, Powell Historical Preservation Society board member.

“Most of our vendors that joined hung with us through some really crazy market weather, and some really tough growing seasons due to the weather,” she said.

“We had a few vendors that signed up that ended up unable to join the market this year due to personal reasons and a few that had to leave mid-season for health issues, but we hope to see them return next year,” Norwood said.

The community wholeheartedly embraced the firstever Farmers Market.

“We heard lots of positive feedback from the shoppers and thoroughly enjoyed watching our vendors support each other and work together to help find items that shoppers were looking for between vendors. We cannot wait to watch this market grow and become a staple of our community.”

This Friday, as the Farmers Market comes to a close for the season, several vendors will gather to showcase their goods.

Lisa Florey with Gypsy-Leatherworks has created more Chief arrowhead earrings and a fresh batch of sunflower earrings, along with other hand-tooled leather goods.

Shoppers can also find McKeever Mountain Farms jellies and jams, pepper relish, cedar and lavender wreaths and lemon creme cupcakes filled with salted caramel, pumpkin or

chocolate candied pecan.

Hamilton Roost will have Swiss chard available, tomatoes, weaving and a few wood-turned items. Lynn’s Sharpening will provide sharpening services for knives, tools, scissors and more.

Rolling Acres Farm will have tomatoes from the garden and possibly lettuce. Several baked goods will be offered, including persimmon cookies and fall/Halloween themed vanilla cookies with buttercream frosting. Spicy seasoning salts also will be available for purchase.

Timber Dust Jewels will showcase a variety of unique hand-crafted crystal jewelry, including some newly added bracelets and earrings, along with several new pieces for the current collection.

Norwood said additional vendors are being recruited to join the Farmers Market next year. Any questions or feedback may be mailed to phpsmarket@gmail.com.
