Girls Cross Country Places Second in Big 8

The McDonald County High School girls’ cross country team had five runners place in the top 25 to lead the Lady Mustangs to second place in the team standings at the Big 8 Conference Girls Cross Country Championsh­ips held Oct. 14, at East Newton High School.

Bailey Miller took 14th place in a time of 22:35.6 to lead McDonald County. Melysia McCrory was not far behind, taking 17th in 23:13.0.

Anna Price was next for the Lady Mustangs, taking 21st in 23:37.6, followed by Addy Mick in 23rd in 23:47.9; Ragan Wilson, 25th, 24:13.7; Haley Mick, 47th, 26:48.4; and Haley Walczak, 64th, 36:20.6.

Kiersten Potter won the individual title in a time of 19:50.8.

Nevada totaled 76 points to win the team title, while McDonald County was second with 90 points. Lamar was third with 98 points, followed by Marshfield with 107, Cassville 118, Monett 143, Hollister 150, East Newton 157, Springfiel­d Catholic 185 and Logan-Rogersvill­e 194.

Boys

Garrett Spears cracked the top 10 in the boys’ race, taking ninth in a time of 17:23.0 to lead McDonald County to fourth place.

Next for McDonald County was David Lazalde in 14th in 17:53.9, followed by Jackson Behm, 21st, 18:48.5; Isaac Behm, 40th, 19:55.6; Levi Smith, 52nd, 20:39.7; Tyler Moritz, 54th, 20:48.4; and Hunter Leach, 59th, 20:58.6.

Kolin Overstreet of Lamar won the race in a time of 16:12.3.

East Newton edged Lamar for the team title 52 to 69. Cassville was third with 116 points, followed by McDonald County with 128, Monett 143, Logan-Rogersvill­e 161, Mount Vernon 164, Springfiel­d Catholic 173, Marshfield 194, Reeds Spring 196 and Aurora 236.

Junior Varsity

Cross Spencer took 13th place in a time of 22:20.9 to lead the McDonald County junior varsity.

Rounding out the results for McDonald County were Garrett Anderson, 22nd, 23:37.7; Justin Smith, 23rd, 23:39.8; Jaxson Harrell, 24th, 23:40.4; Andres Gonzalez, 26th, 24:09.3; Ryan Donica, 31st, 24:38.1; and Matthew McCall, 41st, 27:35.7.

McDonald County’s next meet is the Missouri Class 4 District 6 Cross Country Championsh­ips set for Oct. 26 at Ray-Pec Middle School in Peculiar, Mo.
