What is microneedling?

-

This is a method of rejuvenating skin by making micro-wounds on the skin’s surface. The newest device for the procedure is the Secret RF, which uses radio-frequency heat, and it’s become popular among my male patients. The way it works is the same way a cut heals. The body produces new, youthful skin, which rapidly heals without leaving marks. Microneedling was first used for acne-scarred skin but is now deployed to improve fine lines, wrinkles, and overall skin tone. The addition of radio-frequency heat accelerates healing and yields better results faster, since heat naturally encourages collagen production.

The procedure is a bit uncomfortable, so patients are pretreated with a topical anesthetic. Downtime is usually a day of redness. Several treatments are required, and they run in excess of $1,500. But if you have a big event and want to look your best, this is the way to do it. HAVE A QUESTION FOR DR. IMBER? Email him: Askdrimber@mensjournal.com
