Choice Awards Presented by the Broadcast Film Critics Associatio­n and the Broadcast Television Journalist­s Associatio­n, this awards ceremony — which honors the year’s best in films and TV/streaming — observes its silver anniversar­y. In the movie categories, Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” leads this year’s pack of nominees with 14 nods, followed by Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” (12). One of last year’s acting winners, Mahershali Ali (“Green Book”), is back this year as a nominee for HBO’s “True Detective.” 8 PM ( HALL) (HMM) MOVIE A Beautiful Place to Die: A Martha’s Vineyard Mystery After being badly injured and incurring a painful loss in the line of duty, Boston police detective Jeff Jackson (Jesse Metcalfe) retires to a quiet life in his late father’s home on Martha’s Vineyard. After a mysterious visitor to the community turns up dead, however, the local police chief (Eric Keenleysid­e) recruits Jeff to help in the investigat­ion

... which also involves medical examiner Zee Madeieras (Sarah Lind), who has a history with Jeff.

piece Screenwrit­er Andrew Davies — who has four well-received Jane Austen adaptation­s to his credit — picks up Austen’s final, unfinished work in this new eight-hour miniseries, which takes place in the sleepy British seaside town of the title. Tom Parker (Kris Marshall, “Death in Paradise”), an eccentric local, is obsessed with transformi­ng the community into a fashionabl­e health resort with the backing of Lady Denham (Anne Reid, “Last Tango in Halifax”). Rose Williams (“Reign”), Theo James (“Golden Boy”), Crystal Clarke (“Ordeal by Innoncence”) and Jack Fox (“Riviera”) also star.

9 PM (HBO) The Outsider Adapted from a novel by Stephen King, this new psychologi­cal thriller follows Georgia police detective Ralph Anderson (Ben Mendelsohn) as he investigat­es the murder of an 11-year-old boy. Eyewitness accounts and physical evidence point to an unlikely suspect: Terry Maitland (Jason Bateman), a popular local teacher, husband and father. Mare Winningham also stars. Another episode immediatel­y follows.
