American politics have become so surreal that it’s often hard to differentiate between reality and parody, which poses a challenge to this animated satirical comedy as it resumes Season 3 with new episodes leading up to the presidential election in November. 10 PM ( CNN) Race for the White House
The new episode “Carter vs. Ford” looks back to the presidential election of 1976, which pits the political establishment, represented by Republican President Gerald Ford, against the sunny idealism of Democrat Jimmy Carter, the relatively unknown governor of Georgia who initially is dismissed by opponents as “a peanut farmer.” Ford, who ascended to the presidency in the wake of Richard Nixon’s resignation, is seeking his first elected term as president, but Ford’s pardon of his presidential predecessor remains a sore point for some American voters.
