FRIDAY’S BEST PICKS

-

7:30 PM ( NICK) The Casagrandes After a disagreement with Abuelo, Bobby goes to work for Mr. Hong to try out his new business ideas in the new episode “Bo Bo Business; Blunder Party.” Meanwhile, Ronnie, Anne and Sid are pumped up for their sleepover, but Carl and Adelaide might ruin the day. The voice cast features Izabella Alvarez, Alex Cazares, Leah Mei Gold and Lexi Sexton. 8 PM ( FX) A Wilderness of Error Based on a bestselling book of the same title by filmmaker and author Errol Morris, this new five-part true-crime docuseries from Emmy-winning producer Marc Smerling revisits one of the most noteworthy crimes of the latter 20th century: the 1970 murders of Army surgeon Jeffrey MacDonald’s wife and two young daughters. MacDonald steadfastly insisted the killings were committed by hippies inspired by Charles Manson, but he was convicted of the murders himself and is serving a life sentence. The first three episodes air here, followed by the final two on Oct. 2.

8 PM ( MAX) MOVIE John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum This third entry in the Keanu Reeves action thriller franchise was the most successful to date, both in terms of box-office revenue and critical praise for the screenplay and performances. The story picks up just one hour after the events of the second “Wick” film and finds the ex-hitman title character on the run for his life, pursued by legions of assassins eyeing the $14 million contract placed on his head for his recent actions. Ian McShane, Mark Dacascos, Laurence Fishburne, Halle Berry and Anjelica Huston also star.

9 PM ^ Great Performances The new episode “Now Hear This: The Schubert Generation” uses the tragically brief life of composer Franz Schubert — who composed 1,500 works without having his genius recognized until after his death at age 31 — as a jumping off point for a look at what it takes for a young classical artist to make it today in the 21st century. Host Scott Yoo goes to several of the world’s music capitals to meet rising music stars and play from Schubert’s vast catalog of masterworks. 9 PM ( HGTV) Selling the Big Easy New Orleans natives with very specific tastes have outgrown their home and want to find a property with more space. She’s an interior designer and he’s a contractor, so Brittany must work with their exacting list of requirements to find the perfect home for them in the new episode “Bucktown Bungalow vs. Spanish Colonial.” Elsewhere, Brittany and her team are challenged to stage and list a client’s mid-century modern renovation in a highly coveted neighborhood.

9 PM ( SHO) MOVIE Hot Summer Nights Current Hollywood “It Boy” Timothée Chalamet stars in writer-director Elijah Bynum’s 2017 coming-of-age crime drama as Daniel Middleton, an awkward teenager whose father recently died. Daniel’s mother ships him off to spend summer with an aunt on Cape Cod, where he soon meets and becomes friendly with local bad boy Hunter Strawberry (Alex Roe, TV’s “Siren”). It’s not long before Daniel gets drawn into Hunter’s drug-dealing business. Maika Monroe, Thomas Jane, Emory Cohen and William Fichtner also star.

11 PM ( HBO) Room 104 Childhood best

friends Bruce and Abby (Leonardo Nam,

Lily Gladstone) are understandably surprised when they run into each other for the first time in decades, but the experience is pleasant enough to motivate Bruce to hatch an admittedly eccentric plan to rekindle their long-dormant friendship. Alas, instead he just reopens some painful old wounds in the new episode “The Night Babby Died.”
