“Girlfriends” (Netflix, streaming): Known principally as an actor, Kelsey Grammer had a big success as a producer with this sitcom that lasted eight years (2000-08), also boosting the career of creator-producer Mara Brock Akil (“The Game”). Future “black-ish” star Tracee Ellis

Ross, Golden Brooks, Persia White and Jill Marie Jones play the titular friends who see each other through a variety of personal and professional dilemmas. Not surprisingly, Grammer also appeared in an episode.

“Marathon Man” (HBO Max, streaming): One of the great thrillers of its decade, this 1976 version of the bestseller by William Goldman (who adapted it for film) reteamed director John Schlesinger with his “Midnight Cowboy” star Dustin Hoffman. The latter plays a graduate student who can’t answer a key question – “Is it safe?” – for a war criminal (Laurence Olivier) with terrifying dental skills. The superb cast also includes Roy Scheider, Marthe Keller and William Devane.

“Bret Maverick” (get TV, Sundays and Saturdays): Rarely has television revisited an iconic series and/or character and enjoyed the same level of success. While that was the case in this 1981-82 instance, there still was pleasure in seeing a post-“Rockford Files” James Garner revisit the Western-gambler role that made him a star in the 1950s. Here, Maverick settles in Arizona as the co-owner of a saloon, but his con game remains strong.

“Where Eagles Dare” (Turner Classic Movies, Saturday, Sept. 26): A frequent attraction on the channel, this terrific 1968 World War II adventure from Alistair MacLean – who wrote the novel as he also was doing the screenplay – makes unlikely partners of Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood, playing Allied officers teamed to rescue an officer from German captors. Tremendous aerial footage and an excellent Ron Goodwin score are among the long but rewarding picture’s attributes.
