As the series opens Season 46 tonight, the performanc­e will originate from the ‘SNL” home base in Rockefelle­r Center’s Studio 8H. All of last season’s cast, including Emmy winner Kate McKinnon, returns this season.

8 PM ( LIFE) MOVIE Dying to Be a Cheerleade­r Cheerleade­rs, beware! Lifetime gets into the spooky spirit early with this new TV movie premiere, which kicks off a series of “Fear the Cheer” films airing in October. Here, Darcy (Dominique Booth) is caught up in the glitz and glamour of becoming a part of the cheer squad at her new school and decides to try out. Her dreams turn into a nightmare however, when a member of the team is found dead in the gym showers and all eyes turn on Darcy as the main suspect.

8 PM ( HBO) MOVIE Downhill Jim Rash and Nat Faxon, who won an Oscar for co-writing the 2011 movie drama “The Descendant­s,” also co-wrote and co-directed this 2020 Black comedy, an English-language remake of the well-received 2014 Swedish film “Force Majeure.” This remake stars comedy veterans Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell as Billie and Pete Stanton, a married couple on a family ski vacation who reassess their lives and relationsh­ip when an avalanche threatens to kill them. Miranda Otto and Zach Woods also star. 9 PM ( HALL) MOVIE Country at Heart This 2020 romance stars Jessy Schram (“Chicago Med”) as Shayna, a struggling songwriter who’s considerin­g abandoning her fledgling career when a chance encounter with Grady (Niall Matter) presents a big break. He’s currently working on a song for country star Duke Sterling (Lucas Bryant) and invites Shayna to be his writing partner. Romance blooms, but when Duke takes a shine to her and invites her to join his tour as an opening act, Shayna faces a tough decision. 9 PM ( TRAV) Ghost Adventures In the new episode “Violently Trapped Spirits,” Zak Bagans, Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwin investigat­e the Stanley Hotel, a reallife house of horrors that inspired Stephen King’s masterpiec­e of horror “The Shining,” and also provided the shooting location for a thrilling 1997 TV miniseries adaptation of King’s novel. Later, in another segment, the crew goes undergroun­d in search of thousands of lost souls in Sacramento, Calif.

11:29 PM & Saturday Night Live When the coronaviru­s pandemic shut down instudio production last spring, the cast and writers of this Emmy-winning late-night comedy staple delivered a couple of episodes produced and performed remotely under quarantine conditions. As the series opens Season 46 tonight, however, the performanc­e will originate from the ‘SNL” home base in Rockefelle­r Center’s Studio 8H. With the 2020 presidenti­al election less than a month away, Jim Carrey begins a recurring guest role as Joe Biden. All of last season’s cast, including Emmy winner Kate McKinnon, returns this season.

1 AM ^ Austin City Limits The ongoing coronaviru­s pandemic has wreaked havoc on most shows that feature musicians in performanc­e before a live audience, so tonight’s new offering, “The Very Best of John Prine,” is just that: highlights of the late singer-songwriter’s eight appearance­s on “ACL” dating back to 1978. Songs include “Paradise,” “Sam Stone” and “Angel From Montgomery.” Bonnie Raitt makes a special guest appearance, and Jason Isbell reportedly has recorded a special introducti­on for this episode.
