SATURDAY’S BEST PICKS

-

3:30 PM $ College Football Ranked SEC rivals go at it today down in Dixie, where the Auburn Tigers defend home turf from the LSU Tigers. Led by junior quarterback Bo Nix, No. 13 Auburn has been a Jekyll-and-Hyde team in the early going, playing well against a physical Kentucky team in the season opener but underperforming a week later in a drubbing by Georgia. As for No. 17

LSU, their redshirt junior quarterback

Myles Brennan has done a credible job of stepping into the departed Joe Burrow’s shoes as the team split its first two games.

7 PM ( ESPN) College Football A pair of high-powered offenses will be on display today in Tuscaloosa, where the Alabama Crimson Tide welcome in the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Dark horse Heisman candidate Mac Jones leads a formidable Tide attack that features fellow Heisman hopefuls in senior runner Najee Harris and junior wideout Jaylen Waddle. The unranked Bulldogs have a high-octane attack of their own led by senior K.J. Costello, who has a very capable target in WR Osirus Mitchell.

8 PM ( HALL) MOVIE One Royal Holiday Broadway superstars Laura Osnes (“Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella”) and Aaron Tveit (Fox’s live “Grease” telecast) team up in this

2020 romance, which opens as good Samaritan Anna (Osnes) tries to help Gabriella and James (Victoria Clark, Tveit), a mother and son who have become stranded by a sudden blizzard. She gets rooms for them at her father’s B&B in rural Connecticut, only belatedly learning they’re actually visiting royals. As their stay keeps getting extended, romance blooms between Anna and Prince James. Tom McGowan also stars. 8 PM ( LIFE) MOVIE Candy Cane Christmas Since she was a little girl, Phoebe looked forward to the local Christmas tradition of decorating a street called Candy Cane Lane in yuletide finery. This year, however, her neighbors decide to skip that custom, much to Phoebe’s dismay. Phoebe obsessively starts to search for a new tradition to keep her Christmas spirit burning bright, but soon begins to realize it’s not the tradition that matters, but rather the people one celebrates that tradition with. Beverley Mitchell, Mark Ghanimé, Trudy Weiss and Benedicte Belizaire star in this 2020 holiday romance.

8 PM ( TRAV) Ghost Nation In a special two-hour Halloween episode ominously titled “Reunion in Hell,” the “Ghost Nation” team — Jason Hawes, Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango — calls in paranormal pals Amy Bruni and Adam Berry from “Kindred Spirits” to assist in reopening a case that has taken a sinister turn. Seaview Terrace, a sprawling Rhode Island mansion that was the setting for a TV adaptation of “Dark Shadows,” is the focus of their investigation into strange phenomena that may be linked to a self-proclaimed warlock’s blasphemous ceremony on the premises.

8 PM ( HBO) MOVIE Black Christmas Director and co-writer Sophia Takal’s 2019 slasher film, a loose remake of a 1974 Canadian horror film of the same title, follows a group of college sorority sisters who are being stalked by an unknown killer. Christmas break is approaching for students at Hawthorne College, but coed Riley Stone (Imogen Poots) is still trying to pull herself together after being raped by the president of a campus fraternity. She’ll have to face her assailant during an upcoming holiday event. Aleyse Shannon, Lily Donoghue and Cary Elwes co-star.

8 PM ( LMN) MOVIE My Husband’s Deadly Past Lifetime-movie staple Sarah Butler (“Woman on the Run”) stars in this 2020 thriller as Mackenzie, who is tormented by haunting visions that make her fear she killed a coed who has gone missing from a local campus. Eventually, however, she discovers that her psychiatrist hubby (Peter Benson) may have manipulated her memory to serve his own nefarious ends. Madelyn Grace, Brendon Zub and Lucia Walters also star. 10 PM ( TCM) MOVIE Them! Gotta love giant killer bugs! Enormous ants wreak havoc on a desert town in this 1954 cautionary tale about the dangers of messing with nuclear material. The bug effects are delightfully cheesy, which only adds to the film’s campy goodness. James Whitmore (“The Shawshank Redemption”), Edmund Gwenn (“Miracle on 34th Street”) and James Arness (“Gunsmoke”) lead the cast.

The movie airs tonight as part of TCM’s Happy Halloween Movie Marathon.
