FRIDAY’S BEST PICKS

-

8 PM ( LIFE) MOVIE The Christmas Yule Blog Travel blogger Caroline Williams isn’t exactly thrilled when she gets assigned to cover the 100th anniversary of a Christmas parade in a small New Mexico town. Nevertheless, Caroline travels to the Southwestern community, where she meets Oscar Ortiz, a charismatic high school music teacher. To Caroline’s surprise, Oscar introduces her to a side of Christmas she’s never seen, one filled with different traditions and meanings that rekindle her appreciation of the holiday. Sara Canning and Zak Santiago star in this new 2020 romance.

8 PM ( TCM) MOVIE The Greatest Show on Earth Some were miffed that this 1952 epic took the best picture Oscar over such formidable competition as “High Noon” and “The Quiet Man.” Perhaps it was a sympathy vote for director Cecil B. DeMille, whose only Oscar up until then had been honorary. The main storyline is a love triangle involving a circus manager (Charlton Heston), his trapeze artist girlfriend (Betty Hutton) and the new star (Cornel Wilde) who steals her spotlight and her heart. The film airs as part of TCM’s “Under the Big Top” November event, airing each Friday for the rest of the month.

8:25 PM ( MAX) MOVIE Stuber Director Michael Dowse’s 2019 buddy cop action comedy may have earned mixed reviews overall, but stars Kumail Nanjiani (“Silicon Valley”) and Dave Bautista (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) earned lots of critical love for the comedic odd-couple chemistry they bring to their respective roles as mild-mannered Uber driver Stu Prasad and his latest fare, hyper-intense Los Angeles Police Detective Vic Manning. On a night when Stu just wants to concentrate on getting his first five-star review, Vic needs a driver to help pursue a brutal drug lord (Iko Uwais).

9 PM ^ Great Performances Before becoming a successful CBS late-night television host, James Corden enjoyed a stage triumph in both London and New York in “One Man, Two Guvnors,” an adaptation of a 1743 farce. The frantic comedy gives Corden a showpiece role as a musician turned bodyguard who flirts with disaster when he tries to earn extra cash by working for two rival mobsters. His tour-de-force performance earned Corden the coveted Tony Award on Broadway. Jemima Rooper, Oliver Chris, Daniel Rigby and Martyn Ellis also star.

9 PM G World’s Funniest Animals In the new “Episode 109,” host Elizabeth Stanton welcomes “The Flash” actress Danielle Nicolet as a special guest to screen this week’s collection of video clips showing animals demonstrating some unusual, and mostly funny, behavior. Among the featured critters are a tetherball-playing horse, fish in a feeding frenzy and a pig who keeps literally losing his grip.

9 PM ( TRAV) Ghost Adventures Zak, Nick and Aaron confront a horde of angry spirits at the Jerome Grand Hotel in Jerome, Ariz. The crew then use their ghost hunting skills to uncover the truth behind a terrifying haunting at an abandoned hospital in Yorktown, Texas.

9 PM ( WE) Love After Lockup In a new episode called “Two Body Bags,” Shavel catches Quaylon in a lie, while Dylan turns to another woman for help. Now on the run, Kristianna wants to live it up to the fullest before finally turning herself in. Meanwhile, Lindsey gets an unexpected visitor from out of her past.

10 PM ( MAX) Warrior Ah Sahm, Young Jun and Chao (Andrew Koji, Jason Tobin, Hoon Lee) accompany Vega (Maria

Elena Laas) to the U.S.-Mexico border town of Rooker’s Mill, which is owned by Elijah Rooker (Conor Mullen) in the new episode “To a Man With a Hammer, Everything Looks Like a Nail.” Rooker is the wealthy host behind a highly lucrative fight tournament that Ah Sahm is determined to win. As he learns more about Vega, though, Ah Sahm draws the attention of Dolph (Mike Bisping), another fighter, and Rooker himself.
