Florida adds 4,452 coronaviru­s cases, 86 deaths in busy week

Florida’s Department of Health on Saturday confirmed 4,452 additional cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s known total to 837,077. Also, 86 resident deaths were announced, bringing the resident death toll to 17,100.

The state did not report any additional non-resident deaths, leaving the non-resident toll at 210, according to Florida’s COVID-19 Data and Surveillan­ce Dashboard.

Since the beginning of October, Florida has seen an increase in newly confirmed cases, and Saturday is the seventh consecutiv­e day the state’s single-day case count is higher than 4,000. On Thursday, Florida reported 6,257 cases of COVID-19, the most seen since mid-August — excluding Quest Diagnostic­s’ data dump.

Miami-Dade County reported 808 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 11 new deaths, according to Florida’s Department of Health. The county now has 192,646 confirmed cases and 3,682 deaths. Percent positivity for new cases increased from 6.96% to 8.42%. The 14-day percent positivity average increased from 5.58% to 6.01%, according to Miami-Dade County’s “New Normal” Dashboard.

Due to the threat of Tropical Storm Eta, county COVID testing sites in Miami-Dade were closed Saturday and would remain closed until the storm passes and they could reopen safely, Mayor Carlos Gimenez said. Broward County reported 421 additional confirmed cases of the disease and no new deaths. The county now has 90,172 cases and 1,545 deaths. Percent positivity for new cases increased from

6.13% to 8.22%.

Palm Beach County saw 378 additional confirmed cases and three new deaths. The county now has 55,002 confirmed cases and 1,609 deaths. Percent positivity for new cases increased from 4.61% to 7.70%.

Monroe County confirmed 17 additional cases and no new deaths. The county has 2,539 cases and 25 deaths. Percent positivity for new cases fell from 12.28% to 8.64%.
