Sugarland, Texas - Werner (“Bubba” “Joe”) Joseph Seitz, 86, died peacefully at his home in Sugar Land, TX on December 2, 2020, following many months of declining health. He received care from his devoted step-granddaughter, Cindy Flint, and her brother, Donald Gibbons. Born on March 30, 1934, in Orange, NJ, he was one of the three sons of Joseph Seitz (former President of Colonial Stores) and Elizabeth Seitz. Having moved to Atlanta, in 1939, Werner was a 1953 graduate of Marist College, a Catholic Military High School for boys. While attending Michigan State University, his love of football led him to play for the “Spartans” football team (1955 and 1956). Following his father in the grocery business, he built a successful 42year career at Publix Supermarkets, retiring in 1999 as Director of Merchandising, Miami Division, FL. It was at Publix, where he met and married his wife, Dae Louise Seitz.

Werner’s step-granddaughter, Cindy Flint reflected “Grandpa Joe was the patriarch of our family. He was a father figure whose legacy of love will live on in his step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the type of man all men strive to be. He was hardworking and led by example. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix and never hesitated to help when called. He will leave an indelible mark on our hearts forever.”

Werner is predeceased by his parents, his loving wife of 31 years, Dae Seitz, her son Donald Nace Gibbons, Jr., step-grandson David Gibbons and his sister-in law, Patricia Anne Seitz.

Werner is survived by his two brothers Erwin Seitz (late Patricia), Harold Seitz (Linda); niece Laura Palmer (Charlie), nephews Jim Seitz and Steve Seitz (Bev); great niece and nephew Ali Seitz, Matt Seitz and Vanessa McDow (Miles); step-grandchildren Cindy Flint, Donald Gibbons, Jonathan Gibbons and Danny Gibbons (Kristy); step-great grandchildren George Flint, Jr., Hannah Flint, D.J. Gibbons, Brittany Brooks, William Gibbons, Nicholas Gibbons, Austin Gibbons, Peyton Gibbons, Jalen Gibbons and Lacey Gibbons.

Due to COVID concerns, private burial services will be held at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, GA.
