Miami Beach, Florida - Carmen Garmendia Dominguez of Miami Beach, FL passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at the age of 88. She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Dr. Carlos J. Dominguez; her children Sandra Vives (Mario), Sergio Perez, Tania Dominguez (Curtis Miner), and Carlos Dominguez (Melissa); and 11 loving grandchild­ren and 4 great grandchild­ren. Carmen was born in Holguin, Cuba and immigrated to the U.S. in 1963. She settled in Miami where she met her husband Carlos and obtained a master’s degree in microbiolo­gy from the University of Miami. Carmen enjoyed a long and successful career leading the microbiolo­gy department­s at several local hospitals, including St. Francis Hospital on Miami Beach, until she retired in 2002 from her position at the University of Miami Tissue Transplant Department. Carmen was a talented singer and dancer who enjoyed traveling the world and attending music and theater performanc­es with her husband. She and Carlos were life-long supporters of the Florida Grand Opera, the Metropolit­an Opera, the St. Hugh-Steinway Concert Series, Mt. Sinai Medical Center, FIU, and numerous other educationa­l and humanitari­an organizati­ons. Above all, Carmen cherished spending time with her large family. Her grace, warmth, generosity of spirit, and loving presence will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 13th from 3pm-7pm at Caballero Rivero Westcheste­r. The Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, December 14th at 11:00am at St. Hugh Catholic Church in Coconut Grove, with internment to follow at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery.
