2 more seniors return for UM

- From Miami Herald Staff, Wires — SUSAN MILLER DEGNAN

The Miami Hurricanes got welcomed news three times Saturday. Two senior Hurricanes — linebacker/ defensive end Zach McCloud and starting right offensive tackle Jarrid Williams — announced they were returning for their final seasons instead of training for the NFL Draft.

And former top-50 defensive back recruit Tyrique Stevenson, a Miami Southridge High graduate, announced he is transferring to the Hurricanes from Georgia. He will be entering his third season and will likely play cornerback at UM.

Stevenson started four games for the Bulldogs this past season, and made a game-saving pass breakup against Cincinnati in the Peach Bowl.

McCloud and Williams are taking advantage of an NCAA rule that will allow all players to have an extra year of eligibility next season because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be McCloud’s sixth season and Williams’ seventh in college.

Williams, 6-6 and 308 pounds, transferred to UM last season from Houston, where he was UM quarterback D’Eriq King’s right tackle before they both left for Miami. An injury got him a medical redshirt in 2019. He started all of his 10 games in 2020, and his return means that all five starting offensive linemen are back.

McCloud is the fourth senior to announce he’s returning, along with defensive tackle Jon Ford, receiver Mike Harley and King. Redshirt junior safety Bubba Bolden, redshirt junior punter Lou Hedley and junior running back Cam’Ron Harris previously announced they’re returning.
