THURSDAY’S BEST PICKS

-

12 PM ( GOLF) LPGA Tour Golf Four Season Golf & Sports Club Orlando in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., is the scene today through Sunday, Jan. 24, for the 2021 season-opening Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions. The field for the stroke-play event consists of LPGA tournament winners from the past two years along with celebrities, athletes and amateurs. Gaby Lopez, who drained a 20-foot birdie putt on the seventh hole of a sudden death playoff to win last year’s event, will return to defend her title.

3 PM ( GOLF) PGA Tour Golf The Pete Dye-designed PGA West Stadium Course has been the target of criticism in the past for its degree of difficulty, but Andrew Landry certainly found it to his liking in last year’s The American Express, which gets going today in La Quinta, Calif. It was on the perilous last two holes of the final round where he hit perfect approach shots to secure birdies and a two-shot win over a hardcharging Abraham Ancer. He’ll return today to defend his title.

8 PM * Celebrity Wheel of Fortune Host Pat Sajak and his longtime colleague Vanna White welcome a trio of celebrity contestants from the game show “Holey Moley” to the iconic big wheel, where they’ll compete to solve a word puzzle and win up to $1 million for their charity of choice. Tonight’s stars include Rob Riggle playing for Meals on Wheels, Joe Tessitore appearing on behalf of Wide Horizons for Children and Jeannie Mai competing for No Kid Hungry. 8 PM G Walker A 1993-2001 actionadventure vehicle for Chuck Norris gets a 21st-century reboot in this new drama, which casts“Supernatural” veteran Jared Padalecki as a vividly reimagined Cordell Walker, the widowed Texas Ranger with an unflinching moral code. As this new iteration opens, Walker is returning to his Austin home after spending two years away in undercover work.

His return forces him to address some estrangement issues with his son and daughter (Kale Culley, Violet Brinson), prosecutor brother (Keegan Allen), flinty father (Mitch Pileggi) and supportive mother (Molly Hagan).

8 PM ( A&E) The First 48 Presents Critical Minutes Three cases involving innocent folks who became crime victims during daylight hours make up the new episode “In Broad Daylight,” which includes a night out in New Orleans that later turns into a deadly morning in the aftermath of a seemingly random encounter. In other cases, an argument in Tulsa, Okla., over a cellphone escalates into a double murder, and a lovers’ breakup in Birmingham, Ala., goes horrifyingly wrong in a public park.

8 PM ( FREE) grown-ish This delightful

spinoff from “black-ish” returns with new episodes, starting with “Public Service Announcement,” which finds main character Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi) diving into what looks very much like a dream job after dropping out of Cal U. Now she just has to find a way to balance this new work life with her personal life while touring with Brooklyn-born rapper Joey Bada$$. Elsewhere, Jazz and Doug (Chloe Bailey, Diggy Simmons) are having a hard time agreeing on the rules for their relationship “pause.”

9 PM G Legacies The coronavirus pandemic shut down production on this supernatural drama last spring before the story lines could reach their original climax, but presumably Season 3 will pick up the action tonight with two Season 2 cliffhangers. In one, a fight with the deadly Necromancer (recurring guest star Ben Geurens) left Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) locked in a slumber from which her friends can’t rouse her. Bad timing, though, because her true love Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) has just been mortally wounded. Jenny Boyd and Peyton Alex Smith also return. 10:31 PM ( USA) The Rev Long Island,

N.Y., pastor Richard Hartley opens his funny and heartfelt world to reality

TV cameras for this new documentary series, which follows this larger-than-life man of faith as he interacts with his congregation, as well as his rambunctious but loving family. Whatever time is left over largely is given over to working with the church’s justifiably well-regarded choir. He and his wife, Stacey, also are more than ready to get their millennial children, Judea and Jordan, to leave the family nest.
