When the sun goes down, these fields of light will transform Pinecrest Gardens
You can never see too many lights during the holidays. That’s why the Village of Pinecrest and Pinecrest Gardens are hosting a new immersive art installation to illuminate those chilly — OK, OK, steamy — Miami nights.
And the glow of this exhibit will last long into the new year.
Opening in conjunction with Miami Art Week and running through June 2022, “Forest and Field of Light,” a work by British installation artist Bruce Munro, will take over Pinecrest
Gardens. More than 6,000 fiber-optic illuminated, stemmed glass spheres will stretch across almost two acres, from the attraction’s most iconic vista at Lakeview Terrace to deep into the lower garden.
The lights will illuminate the pathways through the Cypress Slough, Hardwood Hammock and rainforest, with streams of light reflecting around Turtle Island.
This is the first time Pinecrest Gardens is opening its lower garden, said executive director Alana Perez. It’s also the first time Munro has created an outdoor installation for a tropical forest setting.
“Every exhibition venue is unique, and I am delighted to be invited to exhibit my work at Pinecrest Gardens,” Munro said in a statement. “For me, light is a medium of expression and conduit to share thoughts, feelings and life experiences with others. I hope this exhibition will inspire a little bit of hope and joy to everyone.”
“Forest and Field of Light” isn’t the only place to enjoy lights this holiday season. The NightGarden at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden outdoor display features more than 100,000 lights, while Zoo Lights at Zoo Miami features holiday-themed nights and a
giant Christmas tree.
