Unruly people make Beach boardwalk unsafe
Miami Beach is known for its beautiful beaches and lively atmosphere, attracting visitors from all over the world. The boardwalk is a popular spot for people to take a leisurely walk and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city.
I used to love the boardwalk. Lately, however, I have been concerned about its safety because of the behavior of people operating vehicles, such as electric scooters and bikes. Despite the presence of signs indicating that the boardwalk is shared among pedestrians and bicyclists, and that motorized vehicles should yield, these rules are not being followed.
I have witnessed several near-accidents as a result of drivers’ reckless behavior. The noise and speed of the motorized vehicles can be intimidating for pedestrians.
In addition to the safety concerns, I have also experienced distressing encounters with bicycle riders who have been heckling my family and I to get out of the way as they go by at high speeds. This behavior is not only dangerous, it also makes it difficult for pedestrians to enjoy a leisurely walk on the boardwalk.
Increased enforcement of the rules could help to address these problems. This could include increased patrols by park rangers or installing additional signs to remind people of the rules.
As a community, it is important that we take steps to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all boardwalk users.
Despite my emails to the Miami Beach Police Department and city government, I have not seen any improvement.
I hope this issue will be addressed soon and that everyone will do their part to follow the rules and use caution on the boardwalk. – Guillaume Raillard,
