Grizzlies’ Morant out at least 2 games for gun incident

- From Miami Herald Wire Services

Grizzlies star Ja Morant has been ruled out of at least the next two games for Memphis after he was seen displaying what appeared to be a gun at a nightclub on his Instagram live feed early Saturday.

The Grizzlies’ announcement means Morant will not play in Los Angeles against the Clippers on Sunday or the Lakers on Tuesday.

“We are aware of a social media post involving Ja Morant and are investigating,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass said Saturday.

Morant, 23, already had been trending on social media following a report from The Washington Post this week that linked him to an alleged fight with a 17-year-old and alleged threats against a mall security guard.

Charges were not brought in either of those separate incidents last summer, according to Shelby County (Tenn.) police records obtained by the Post.

In the first incident, the Post reported that a 17year-old claimed to have been punched at least 12 times by Morant during a pick-up game at Morant’s house in Eads, Tenn., on July 26. The punches left a “large knot” that was visible to officers.

The scrum allegedly began when the two got into a verbal altercation that became heated, resulting in the teen hitting Morant in the face with the basketball, something the teen claimed was accidental. The teen told police that Morant emerged from his house with his hand on a gun visible on his waistband. Morant told police that he punched the teen but that the latter was the aggressor, per the Post report, which added Morant filed his own police report weeks later.

NFL: Former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young

officially measured 5-10 1⁄8

and 204 pounds on Saturday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis. If NFL executives and scouts overlook the former Heisman Trophy winner’s less-than-ideal stature and still make him a firstround pick next month, he would be the lightest Round 1 QB since at least 2006 and one of the shortest since the 1967 NFLAFL merger. His frame is very similar to the 2019 combine measurements for Kyler Murray, who was 5-10 1⁄8 and 207 pounds and went No. 1 overall in the draft to the Arizona Cardinals . ... The Patriots are expected to release veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer ,a source confirmed to the Boston Herald. Hoyer, who has had three different stints with the Patriots, started one game in 2022, that coming Week 4 against the Packers in Green Bay.
