St. Augustine, Florida - NICHOLS, Richard Lee passed away peacefully in St. Augustine, Florida on June 11, 2023.

Richard was born on March 28th, 1939 in Miami (My-am-ah), Florida, the son of the late Perry Augustus Nichols and Inez Hill Nichols.

Richard attended Coral Gables High School; graduated from The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C as a member of the swim team; earned his JD law degree from Stetson University; and was a JAG in the United States Coast Guard Reserve. As a lifelong Florida resident, he was passionate about boating and fishing on the Five Pennies in South

Florida and the Bahamas. He also was a first-class marksman, internatio­nal bill fisherman and played a mean game of backgammon.

He will be remembered for being a devoted husband and father, for his quick wit, kindness, compassion, and love for his family.

He is preceded in death by his younger brother Perry Augustus Nichols Jr. (Nancy) of Auburn, Alabama. He is survived by his beloved wife Kathryn Anne Nichols; John Scott Nichols of North Palm Beach, Florida, Sara Elaine Nichols of Richmond, Virginia, Charles Hardeman, Matthew Hardeman and Paige Nichols of St. Augustine, Florida; eight grandchild­ren, one great-grandson; Brother John Russell Nichols (Lorrie) of Carbondale, Colorado; sister Diane Nichols Sinnar (Don) of Vero Beach, Florida and a number of nieces and nephews.
