Fins re-sign Berrios to 1-year contract; Baker to Seahawks

- — BARRY JACKSON Matthew Stafford.

As expected, the Dolphins re-signed wide receiver and primary returner Braxton Berrios to a one-year contract Saturday, according to a league source.

The deal could be worth as much as $3 million, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.

Berrios caught 27 passes (in 33 targets) for 238 yards and a touchdown last season and played 44 percent of the Dolphins’ offensive snaps.

But his role in the passing game diminished over the final three months of the season. Berrios had 16 targets in the first four weeks but just 17 the remainder of the season.

He returned 23 punts for 235 yards (a 10.2 average), which ranked 13th in the NFL. He also returned 18 kickoffs for 441 yards (a 24.5 average).

Berrios, 28, came to the Dolphins last season after four seasons with the

New York Jets.

Berrios and third-year player Erik Ezukanma join starters Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle as the veteran receivers under contract.

Robbie Chosen — who caught four passes for 126 yards and a touchdown for Miami last season — remains a free agent but was at team headquarters Friday for a free agent visit.

Chase Claypool and

River Cracraft remain free agents. Cedrick Wilson Jr. agreed to a deal with New Orleans on Friday.

SEATTLE GETS BAKER

A little more than a week after the Dolphins released Jerome Baker, the longtime starting inside linebacker has found a new home. He is signing a one-year, $7 million deal with Seattle, ESPN reported.

The Dolphins saved close to $10 million in cap space by releasing Baker.

Cowboys: Dallas released linebacker

Leighton Vander Esch, 28, and receiver Michael Gallup, also 28. The Cowboys said Vander Esch, who missed 12 games last season because of a long-term neck issue, was released with a failed physical designation. According to reports, the move frees up $2.14 million in salary-cap space.

The Cowboys said Gallup will be listed as a post-June 1 cut. The move reportedly saves Dallas $9.5 million. Over the past three seasons, he never accumulated 40 receptions or 500 receiving yards in a year.

Jets: Former Dallas left tackle Tyron Smith agreed to a one-year deal with New York that could be worth up to $20 million.

This year’s free-agency period began with the Jets needing three starters on the offensive line. They filled the vacancies by signing left guard John Simpson (formerly with Baltimore), trading with the Ravens for right tackle Morgan Moses, and adding Smith.

Even at 33, Smith continues to play at a high level. Last season, Smith allowed just one sack and committed three penalties in 13 games for Dallas.

But he does have a concerning injury history.
