- Camesi, Elsie passed away peacefully after a short illness on March 6. Born in Grand Cayman (BWI) in 1921, she was a 95 year resident of Miami. Elsie attended Miami Jackson High where she was a member of the first graduation class of 1939. With stories of the depression, living on a dredge, movies at the Olympia Theater, blackouts during WWII and watching soldiers march down Lincoln Road, she made old Miami come to life for her family.

While working as a legal secretary, Elsie met her future husband Len in 1948 and they were grateful to be able to celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary. As an active member of Kendall United Methodist Church from 1959: she taught Sunday school, bible school, member of adult ABC class, treasurer, Women’s Society, Golden Agers senior group, Go-Go Ramblers and a member of American Legion

Auxiliary (post #98).

Elsie had many interests. She loved to dance, taking ballroom dance lessons with Jack Bell Studio where she met her husband. Piano instilled a love of music for her entire family, who attended many live Broadway musicals. Elsie also loved to play the piano while her husband would sing. Sewed many of her own clothes and her daughters. She became an accomplished artist late in life, painting numerous landscapes. As a fantastic cook, she enjoyed baking “from scratch”: carrot, apple, German chocolate cakes and pumpkin and banana breads which always delighted anyone lucky enough to receive them as part of a gift!

Most important is the impact of her totally sweet and loving personality. Always compassionate and generous with people, she followed the Golden Rule. The world would be a better place if everyone could follow her example. She will be forever loved and missed and always in our hearts.

Elsie is survived by her daughters, Cathy Brewster (George) and Susan Adams, granddaughters Melanie Brewster (Nick) and Tiffany Adams and great-grandson Nathaniel. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Leonard Camesi and grandson Christopher Adams. Private graveside burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
