“The Andy Griffith Show” (MeTV, Sunday, March 17): The second episode in the sitcom’s run, “The Manhunt” introduced Otis Campbell, the perpetually inebriated Mayberry resident played by Hal Smith. The main story finds Sheriff Andy Taylor and Deputy Barney Fife (Andy Griffith, Don Knotts) going their own way to catch a local fugitive when the state police don’t want them involved in the pursuit. Barney proves to be a bit too excitable for the chase.

“Walker, Texas Ranger” (get TV, Sunday, March 17): Well-known to “Mission: Impossible” fans as resourceful agent Cinnamon Carter, Barbara Bain guest stars as a nun in “Saving Grace.” The character is among those held hostage when escaped convicts take over a church while awaiting items that supposedly will help them make a bigger getaway — but that won’t happen if Walker (Chuck Norris) can help it, especially since his girlfriend Alex (Sheree J. Wilson) also is among the captives.

“The Day After Tomorrow” (FX, Monday, March 18): If you think this winter has been cold, just watch what happens in this 2004 sci-fi drama from director and co-writer Roland Emmerich (“Independence Day”). A storm ravages Earth, causing sub-freezing conditions around the globe … and having a very personal aspect for a climate expert (Dennis Quaid) whose son (Jake Gyllenhaal) is stranded in New York with classmates. Terrific visual effects make up a big component of the film, particularly as a tidal wave hits Manhattan, carrying through the streets everything that’s in its path — even including ships.
